I was a Conservative candidate for Leeds City Council for the ward where I live. I came a fairly distant third behind the LibDem incumbent and a Labour councillor who had been deselected from his ward in another part of the city. At least I got a fair number more votes than the UKIPper.

I also spent 6 months as a pupil barrister in chambers doing mainly white collar criminal work and 18 months in the Government Legal Service, first doing Competition Law in the DTI and being shouted at by Michael Heseltine, then prosecuting smugglers of various types of contraband for Customs & Excise and failing to persuade the Magistrates at Wantage that an animé film of a demon snake penetrating a schoolgirl was obscene enough to warrant confiscation.
Good but not outstanding BA and BCL in lawyerish stuff and philosophy at Oxford University. Mainly science/maths A levels (and English for a laugh when I managed to persuade my mum that I really wasn’t going to study medicine and so could drop hateful Chemistry) at what is apparently the best state Sixth Form College in England. Exhibitioner at a very minor public school where I learned how to play most sports badly while not getting an EBacc, straddling the last year of O levels and the first year of GCSEs.
